Believing Is Seeing: Why AI Adoption Starts With You
EO Retreat 2026 | Kilkea Castle | 17 June 2026
On the 17th of June 2026, I had the opportunity to speak at the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) two-day retreat in the beautiful surroundings of Kilkea Castle.
EO is a global peer-to-peer network of business owners built around three pillars: business, family, and personal growth. What makes EO unique is its culture of experience sharing. Entrepreneurs learn from entrepreneurs.
The theme for the retreat was:
Believing Is Seeing
It was the perfect theme for a conversation about Artificial Intelligence.
For many business owners, AI still feels like something happening somewhere else. They hear the headlines, see the announcements, and wonder what it all means for their business.
But the reality is simple.
You don’t believe AI because someone tells you to.
You believe it when you see it working for yourself.
That is the core idea behind Believing Is Seeing. AI adoption accelerates when leaders experience the value for themselves rather than simply hearing about it.
The Biggest AI Opportunity Is You
One of the key messages I shared with the group was that AI transformation doesn’t start with your company.
It starts with you.
Before AI changes your business, it changes how you learn, think, communicate, and make decisions.
Today, every entrepreneur has access to something previous generations never had:
A personal tutor available 24 hours a day.
You can now ask:
- Teach me this.
- Explain this simply.
- Challenge my thinking.
- Create a learning plan.
- Give me examples.
- Test my understanding.
The ability to learn quickly is becoming one of the most valuable skills in business.
The competitive advantage is no longer access to information.
The competitive advantage is learning faster than everyone else.
One of the strongest examples of Believing Is Seeing is when entrepreneurs start using AI in their own daily workflow and immediately experience the productivity gains.
Stop Typing. Start Talking.
But the biggest productivity gains often come from changing the way we interact with AI.
I encouraged attendees to start using:
- Speech-to-text instead of typing
- Screenshots instead of lengthy explanations
- Voice conversations instead of written prompts
The faster you can transfer what’s in your head into AI, the faster AI can help you create value.
The entrepreneurs who embrace this shift are discovering that they can complete work in minutes that previously took hours.
Everyone Is Now A Builder
One of the most exciting developments in AI is that natural language has become a new interface for creation.
For decades, building software required coding skills.
Today, entrepreneurs can describe what they want in plain English and create:
- Applications
- Workflows
- Dashboards
- Assistants
- Customer experiences
The barrier between idea and execution has never been lower.
Everyone is becoming a builder.
The 5 Ps Of AI Readiness
Throughout the session, I shared the framework we use with organisations that are successfully adopting AI.
The journey starts with five key areas:
People
Building AI literacy, confidence, and capability across the organisation.
Process
Identifying repetitive work and redesigning workflows using AI.
Products
Enhancing existing products and services through AI capabilities.
Proprietary Data
Understanding, organising, and leveraging the unique data assets that make your business different.
New Products & Services
Exploring entirely new revenue opportunities created by AI.
Many organisations focus on tools.
The most successful organisations focus on readiness.
AI Readiness Before AI Adoption
One lesson that consistently emerges from my work with organisations is this:
AI readiness matters more than AI tools.
Companies often rush to deploy technology before preparing their people, processes, and data.
The businesses creating real value are investing in:
- AI literacy
- Governance
- Data readiness
- Clear use cases
- Responsible experimentation
Technology is rarely the biggest obstacle.
Readiness is.
Many of these readiness principles align with the OECD AI Principles, which encourage responsible and human-centred AI adoption.
The SEE Framework
The EO team wanted participants to leave with a practical framework they could apply immediately.
I shared a simple approach called the SEE Framework.
Spot
Identify one task, challenge, or opportunity where AI could help.
Experiment
Test AI on that task.
Keep it simple.
Keep it low risk.
Focus on learning.
Embed
When it works, make it part of your routine and teach others how you achieved the outcome.
The organisations moving fastest with AI are not trying to transform everything overnight.
They are running hundreds of small experiments and scaling what works.
Understanding The Economics Of AI
As AI becomes embedded into business operations, leaders also need to understand the economics behind it.
We discussed:
- Tokens
- Usage limits
- Cost management
- Model selection
Many leaders understand software licensing.
Few yet understand AI consumption.
This will become an increasingly important business skill as AI adoption scales.
Don’t Lose Your Gut Instinct
Perhaps the most important point of the day was this:
AI is incredibly powerful.
But it should never replace judgement.
The future belongs to leaders who can combine:
- Human experience
- Business intuition
- Critical thinking
- AI capability
AI can provide recommendations.
It can generate options.
It can accelerate analysis.
But your gut, your experience, and your understanding of people remain irreplaceable.
Believing Is Seeing
The room at Kilkea Castle included entrepreneurs at every stage of the AI journey.
Some were already embedding AI deeply into their businesses.
Others were experimenting.
Some were still deciding where to begin.
The common thread was curiosity.
The entrepreneurs who will benefit most from AI over the next decade won’t necessarily be the most technical.
They will be the ones willing to see what is possible.
Because once you see AI create value in your own business, your own role, and your own life…
that’s when belief begins.
And as the theme of the retreat reminded us:
Believing is Seeing.
“Thought-provoking, clear and incredibly easy to digest. The session went down exceptionally well with our members, and the feedback has been brilliant. Mark’s ability to make AI accessible without overwhelming the audience sparked some fantastic discussions that continued long after the event.”
